Vintage Collins R-388/URR 51J-3 Ham Radio / Shortwave Receiver

Description

The Collins 51J-3  R-388/URR receiver was made for military and commercial users who required an extremely accurate frequency readout and a very stable, drift-free receiver that provides excellent communications reproduction of AM, CW, and with careful tuning, SSB signals.
It is perfect for Shortwave listening, as it provides general coverage reception from 500 kHz up to 30.5 mHz with better than 1 kHz dial accuracy anywhere within that tuning range.
The tuning system uses thirty, 1.0 mHz wide tuning ranges and the receiver itself featured performance that was literally years ahead of the competition at the time.  Operationally, it turns on and receives stations across all bands when atmospheric conditions permit reception. Cosmetically it is in used conditions with scuffs, scrapes, and scratches consistent with its age.  Electrically, the buyer should expect that minor cleaning of controls or other routine maintenance may be needed.
