Drake SPR-4 Ham Radio Shortwave Receiver
This auction is for a high Serial Number (5696), late production Drake SPR-4 Communications receiver.  If you are reading this auction, you probably know all about this wonderful receiver - it is a proven classic, Drake's first solid state receiver.  It is in excellent electronic condition and excellent cosmetic condition with a few minor marks.
The previous owner made some interesting modifications to this receiver (please study the photos):  Changed the antenna input from the stock RCA jack to a BNC jack.  Moved the ON/OFF switch from the 'Dial Lamp' position on rear panel to inside the chassis.  I think this switch on the stock SPR-4 actually would turn off the lamps completely to conserve power if running on batteries.  The switch is now a dimmer, offering two levels of brightness.  Added an RCA jack to 'INJ' position and attached a yellow wire to it.
Added an RCA jack to 'RY' position and attached a coax cable to it.  Added an RCA jack next to 'Serial No' position and attached a coax cable to it.  I am not an electronics technician and do not have any idea what these mods do.  Changed the frequency band crystal in position #1 from the stock 11.59 MHz (for 500 kHz - 1000 kHz) to 31.59 MHz (
for 20,500 kHz - 21,000 kHz
).  May have also changed the frequency band crystal in position #2 from the stock 12.09 MHz to something else that I cannot determine.  He also removed the Crystal calibrator socket from the top of the chassis.  Perhaps he connected his own calibrator signal to one of the RCA jacks he'd added?
Of course, you can always just ignore these mods and enjoy this SPR-4!  That's what I've been doing - it is an excellent receiver.
