    Description

A Catskill, NY, bank check dated January 19, 1822, and drawn on the Greene County Bank.  This check has a rather interesting association in that it was printed by Croswell.  Edwin Croswell was a local printer and a close friend of future president Martin Van Buren.  He later published the Albany Argus, a newspaper supportive of the political ambitions of Martin Van Buren.  Van Buren was married in Croswell's home in the village of Catskill, NY, in 1807.  Catskill is located in Greene County, just across the Hudson River from Kinderhook, NY, where Van Buren was born and grew up.  About thirty years ago the home was opened as a restaurant--named "The President's Wedding".  Unfortunately the restaurant did not flourish, and it was only open for a short time.  Great item, in excellent condition, with presidential association.
