    Description

Receipt that reads, ".25  RECEIVED of the Commissioners for improving the Navigation of the River Susquehanna, from Columbia to Tide, five Dollars and twenty five cents, for helping up with a Boat from the head of the Canal to Columbia,  May 14th, 1825,  Natham Collins John Enny."  In the early days of the United States, a lot of travel was done on the Rivers.  So the first improvements were to navigation on the rivers--removing snags (fallen trees), rocks, etc.  Back then twenty five cents per day was  good pay.  2 3/4 by 7 1/2 inches.
