    Description

    Bank Check issued by Lanman & Kemp & Co. on the Bank of New York, Payable in GOLD.  In the 1860s and 1870s GOLD Coins were not interchangeable with paper money.  Most people who had checking accounts had accounts that paid in paper money.  A few also had accounts that paid out gold coins.   This check would have been paid in U. S. Gold Coin!  3 1/4 by 8 1/4 inches.  Imprinted revenue RN-B1.
